Funneling Sales for your Business

April 10, 2007

Some people that build and develop websites, portals, etc only look at it as a website but a website is much more then that.  To some it’s a communications tool, to others it’s a sales system, or a means to entertain the masses.  I was reading through one of the sites that I frequent today, Yaro’s ‘Entrepreneurs Journey’, and I am always amazed at how he captures his audience.  He was discussing the concept of a “Sales Funnel” and how online business owners and marketers should realize that no matter how poorly designed and developed a site is, every site has a sales funnel.  If it isn’t then that means you aren’t making any money through it or you aren’t making the kind of money that you could be making.  Here is an excerpt from Yaro’s article…

Basic Sales Funnel Structure

The sales funnel begins by capturing the attention of prospects. Some prospects are convinced to become buyers, who purchase an entry level product, demonstrating that they have a need for what is on offer and are willing to invest money to solve their problem. The sales funnel continues to nurture the best customers, filtering out mismatches and refining the specific target customer, offering them more specialized products and services, often at higher prices.

If you are looking at your company’s site thinking “how can we improve the sales process?” then the answer is simple.  First off I would say, start reading articles like Yaro’s and working with a professional that thinks and designs in a manner fitting this scope.  I think that few designers ever think about how their clients will be able to sell using the site that was built for them.  Just remember that the good ones do think about that sort of stuff ;)
